What Are Multiples of Fractions?
When we talk about multiples of fractions, we're simply multiplying
fractions by whole numbers!
Just like 3 × 2 means "three groups of two," 3 × ½ means "three groups of one half." It's like having
three halves of a pizza - that's one and a half whole pizzas!
How to Find Multiples of Fractions
1️⃣ Multiply the numerator (top number) by the whole number
2️⃣ Keep the denominator (bottom number) the same
3️⃣ Simplify if needed (convert to mixed number if numerator is larger)
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Pizza Fractions
If each slice is \(\frac{1}{4}\) of a pizza, how much pizza would you have with 5 slices?
5 × \(\frac{1}{4}\) = ?
Count the colored pieces: 0/4
Example 2: Solve the Problem
What is 4 × \(\frac{2}{3}\)? Let's calculate it step by step!
4 × \(\frac{2}{3}\) = (4 × 2) ÷ 3 = /3
Can you simplify it?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real-world examples: Cooking measurements (½ cup × 3) or pizza slices make great visual aids.
- Connect to whole numbers: Remind your child that 3 × ½ works just like 3 × 5, but with fractions.
- Play fraction games: Try "Fraction War" with cards where you multiply fractions by whole numbers.
