What Are Decimal Number Lines?
Decimal number lines help us see where numbers with tenths and hundredths belong between whole numbers.
Just like regular number lines show whole numbers in order, decimal number lines show all the numbers in between! They help us compare decimals and understand how big or small they are.
How to Read Decimal Number Lines
1️⃣ Find the whole numbers at the ends (like 2 and 3)
2️⃣ Count the small marks - each one might be 0.1 or 0.01
3️⃣ Look at the position - closer to the left means smaller, closer to the right means bigger
Let's Practice!
Example 1: Place the Decimal on the Number Line
Drag the red dot to show where 2.4 would be on this number line:

Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real-world examples: Show decimals on measuring tapes, rulers, or kitchen scales to make learning practical.
- Make it a game: Create a "decimal scavenger hunt" where kids find items with decimal measurements around the house.
- Connect to money: Use dollars and cents to help understand tenths (dimes) and hundredths (pennies).
