What Are Data and Graphs?
Data is just information we collect about things!
We can collect data about our favorite colors, pets, foods, or anything else. Graphs help us see the
data in a picture so it's easier to understand.
How We Use Graphs
1️⃣ Collect information (like favorite ice cream flavors)
2️⃣ Organize the data (count how many for each flavor)
3️⃣ Show it on a graph (make a colorful picture of the results)
Let's Explore Graphs!
Example 1: Favorite Pets Bar Graph
Let's see what pets are most popular in our class!
Which pet is most popular? How many more people like cats than dogs?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it real: Collect data about things in your home (favorite snacks, toy colors) and help your child make simple graphs.
- Graph hunt: Look for graphs in newspapers, magazines, or online and talk about what they show together.
- Hands-on fun: Use stickers, crayons, or small toys to create physical graphs on paper or a whiteboard.
