What Are Counting Patterns?
Counting patterns are special ways numbers follow each other!
Just like when you skip or hop, we can skip count by 2s, 5s, 10s, and more. These patterns help us count faster and see how numbers are connected. Today we'll explore patterns all the way up to 1,000!
How to Find Counting Patterns
1️⃣ Start with any number (like 0, 5, or 10)
2️⃣ Choose how much to count by (like +2, +5, or +10)
3️⃣ Continue the pattern by adding the same amount each time
Let's Explore Patterns Together!
Example 1: Counting by 5s
Let's count by 5s starting at 100. What comes next?
Example 2: Counting by 10s
Count by 10s starting at 250. Find the hidden pattern!
Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it musical: Create counting songs or chants for different patterns (like "5, 10, 15, 20..." to a simple tune).
- Everyday counting: Point out patterns in real life - count stairs by 2s, nickels by 5s, or dimes by 10s.
- Number line race: Use a large number line (up to 1,000) and have your child hop or point to numbers in different patterns.
