What Are Addition Input/Output Tables?
Addition input/output tables are like magic number machines!
They show us what happens when we add numbers together. You put a number in (input), add another number,
and get a new number out (output). It's a fun way to see patterns in addition!
How to Use Addition Tables
1️⃣ Look at the input number (the number going into the table)
2️⃣ Find the rule (what number are we adding each time?)
3️⃣ Calculate the output (input + rule = output)
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Adding 25 Each Time
Input | Output |
---|---|
100 | |
150 | |
200 |
Can you figure out what number we're adding each time? The rule is: Input + ? = Output
Example 2: Adding 120 Each Time
Input | Output |
---|---|
80 | |
150 | |
300 |
What's the rule this time? Input + ? = Output
Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it real: Use grocery receipts or toy prices to create your own input/output tables with your child.
- Pattern recognition: Encourage your child to look for patterns in the tables - this helps develop number sense.
- Start small: Begin with two-digit numbers before moving to three-digit numbers to build confidence.
